Lapbook Lessons

Hello Friends,
I'm sorry I've been so quiet...we've had a very busy summer...I don't think I can remember a summer being this busy in quite some time! However, our vacation to Williamsburg is done, dd17's mission trip is over, the wedding of our oldest has come and gone...I will get pictures posted sometime! and now the weeks are filled with curriculum decisions and baby preparations as we ready for granddaughter #2.

I initially thought we'd just keep puttering along using our current math and reading programs, adding maybe spelling and grammar as needed, and using the lapbooks to learn science and history...

I wasn't really happy with that decision, I felt like the history part would be lacking...though science would be fine...plus how to pull it all together and fit Biblical instruction in there too!?

Then I began looking into Five in a Row, Konos, Beautiful Feet and other unit study curriculums...I found Heart of Dakota and their program called Little Hearts for His Glory. I hemmed and hawed about which level to use, but finally decided on the Little Hearts level, supplementing as needed in the language arts department with Spelling Power and Daily Grams.

I am excited to be using this program, and pulling in my ds4. I am not sure exactly how lapbooking will fit into the program, but I aim to do it, too!

If anyone else is using the LHFHG program, and lapbooking - PLEASE share your hints/tips!

Blessings to all my wonderful friends here!

Merchi-

We got Little Hearts for his Glory Last year, it's a great curriculum. I made a couple printables and linked up to some stuff that is available on www.LittleBlots.com.

We just used lapbooking right alongside some of it (hence our Creation Lapbook) but I would say you could easily look ahead at the lessons and determine what kinds of things to include in your lapbook. We liked adding lapbooks for the Bible story parts of it.

Hope that helps, maybe someone else can comment too?

Blessings,

Valerie

I am using LHFHG and plan on doing lapbooks and/or short unit studies during breaks from the curriculum. We will be putting together a portfolio throughout the year to chart my dd's progress and to have a keepsake. We id her starting page yesterday with a picture of her at her desk, glued onto cardstock and then decorated by her. I put it into a page protector and then into a binder. We will follow this up each unit with a page for the memory verses and her artwork.

Our first lapbook/unit study will be based on the Frog and Toad books. I plan on following the format, somewhat, of LHFHG for the unit study and to put together a lapbook to showcase the study.
