This is a short and quick lapbook we did on Mount Rushmore. We learned about the sculptor Gutzon Borglum, the dates when the sculpture was started, when it was finished, the presidents to be included, problems that arose, and some other fascinating events that happened in between. Also included in the 'booklet' are facts of each of the presidents and various things that they did in their lifetime. I really wanted to make this into a bigger project and lapbook, but it just didn't seem to fit righ…

School has been back in for awhile, and I never took the time to mention the various websites, books, and pc programs I tried out over the summer, while making my homeschooling decisions. The one that's always been on my
to-do list is the
Time4Learning website. I thought I would let all of you know what I thought about the site. It seems to be a great curriculum that saves a lot of work on us homeschool p…

Ok. We haven't been creating any lapbooks since school started back up, but I have been busy with something I decided to create called lesson folders. I decided to use a free American History curriculum this year by
ProntoLessons. If you haven't had a chance to check it out, you should. It's a complete curriculum and very easy to follow. It is working out really good for us so far. Basically, the lessons are easy explained by the…

I hope this is ok to post here. I was just amazed. I signed up on one the sister sites to Lapbook Lessons awhile back. It's
File Folder Fun, but I never browsed it to see what was there. Wow, there are some nice file folder files! I will be using more of them in the future, especially the ones for grades 2 and 3 :-) So, for now, these are the first two we decided to put together. These are great for reviewing sight words. I am glad they were offered. Here…

Over the last couple weeks we worked on this Australia lapbook. I used a resource from
Teacher Book Bag titled 'Continental Little Hoppers Australia'. We studied maps of Australia, many facts about the continent, Australian animals, the Aborigines, Aboriginal sign language, Aboriginal Art, boomerangs, kangaroos, and why there are so many sheep in Australia! We covered many other topics throughout that we will also continue to study later on. Here are some…

Well, the other day, a couple of my kids did the fingerprinting lapbook that I posted on my lapbooklessons blog
HERE. I wanted to have one that my five year old daughter could do, so here it is :-) This one is the Itty Bitty Science Kit: Fingerprinting by The Heart of a Child and
Teacher Book Bag (yes, same publishers again :-) Like the other unit, we learned various things…

We just completed a fingerprinting lapbook and lessons using "Science Sizzles: Fingerprinting" by Teacher Book Bag and The Heart of a Child. The unit is geared toward grades 3-6, which comes in handy when you have six to teach :-) This unit has lots of information about fingerprints and explains 'Dactyloscopy'. I myself was even able to learn from the lessons provided :-) We studied the different fingerprint patterns, facts about fingerprints, and also

I hope this is ok to post on the site. I recently started trying to create some of my own resources to use and to share. I'm new at it, so not very good at it yet. I would LOVE to create lapbook files in the future, but I have to start off on a smaller scale to get practice :-) So, most of my stuff is worksheets and charts right now. Please let me know what you think. This site also has lot of other things that could be used in lapbooks or notebooks. I think there are even some lapbooks posted t…

I know many people here have done a lapbook on this same title, but this story and the FIAR series are new to me and my children :-)
This is a study and lapbook we did based on "The Story About Ping". This is a terrific classic story. If you haven't read it to your children, please do :-) I started using the Five in a Row (FIAR) series (or at least parts of it, lol). This was the first story. I usually shy away from the old literature studies but was really surprised with the way FIAR is laid o…

Today we did turkey lapbooks with the younger children. I have been really pressed for time on Thanksgiving lessons and projects so I decided for the younger ones I would narrow it down to just turkeys, since it is an American favorite during Thanksgiving :-) It is possible that the Pilgrims ate turkey but their main course most likely consisted of things such as venison, duck, goose, seafoods, etc. But, like I said above... it is an American favorite during the holiday. For some reason, kids ar…

We finally found a little time to squeeze in another lapbook. This one was about Johnny Appleseed. We included information about who he was, facts of his life, and what he did. We also included things about apples including the different varieties, apple recipes, labeling, apple sayings, and the life cycle of apple trees, and much more. We used various resources from the internet and also some lapbook packages I purchased awhile back. Most of my resources came from the following websites:
A Jou…

I'm not sure what to call this. Even though it's not a lapbook, I wanted to post it because I think it would be a nice idea to maybe put in a counting lapbook or something. You could just make an extra little pocket and put this in the lapbook. I had a big chart like this that I made years ago. It teaches counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's. Well, my son recently got really into this thing! So, I tried to think up a way to make it pocket-sized and protected so he could bring it with him, and look at…

This is not a lapbook but still wanted to share in case it could give someone else an idea. I hope that is ok. I'm sure many people already use these, but they are new to me :-)
Since I have limited space in my house right now, I needed a way to have charts readily available without taking up huge amounts of space on the wall, tables, etc. I found the idea of desk tags online. These are really great. You can have several different 'mini charts' on one piece of cardstock. I laminated mine with c…

This is a rhyme reading book that we started. It is basically a lapbook that we will be adding more rhymes to over the next several weeks. I used colored file folders and made them into a book. Just something simple for my youngest. We are using 'Literature Pockets' by Evan Moor for the general layout, even though it is not set up exactally like a literature pocket. We will also be adding lots more to it. Each rhyme includes a little book, writing/drawing worksheets, and a quick project. Each pa…

Today we finished a Transportation Lapbook. I love the way this one came out and we both had lots of fun with it. There is a 'Train Math Game' on the inside that opens up. I got the airplane stickers on the front cover online a long time ago. The rest of the resources I got from homeschoolshare, abcteach, and DLTK's. Here are some pics.

We created a Consonant Blend lapbook today! This is the first lapbook we have ever created without using other resources. Everything in the lapbook is created by me except for the copyright free, public domain clip art. I kind of rushed in the end, which I regret. It wasn't really child-involved but they are all still so excited to use it, fussing over who's it will be, even the ones that already read well, lol. I made a lot of mistakes that I will make sure I don't make on the next one. The lap…

Today we finally finished our Frog Lapbooks. We took a break from them for about a week. These were really fun to make and we learned a lot of new things. Notice I said 'we'... YES, I ALSO LEARNED. Frogs never really inerested me in school, but this time around, they really impressed me!!! Here are some pics of the 2 different frog lapbooks.

This is an "A" lapbook that I made with my youngest. We made it small and simple because I am hoping to follow up with "E", "I", "O", and "U" lapbooks. I got to thinking about it and maybe we should have just made a "Vowel" lapbook instead! Oh well, I guess I will figure it out later. You live and you learn, lol :-) I can't wait for the colored file folders I ordered to come in the mail!!! From what I have seen on this site, they make the lapbooks so much neater and interesting! Here are some pi…
