Profile Information

About Me:
I consider myself pretty new to lapbooking but not homeschooling. We've homeschooling on and off since 1993.
My husband and I have 7 children (21, 19, 18, 17, 16, 5, 4), a son-in-law, two granddaughters (6 & 1 month.) We are currently homeschooling 1 teen and 3 little ones (including my dgd!) We are using Heart of Dakota's Little Hearts for His Glory curriculum, and I'm excited about lapbooking as a fun new way for the littlest ones to learn!

Rabbit Lapbook (Fox too!)

Hello Friends!
We finished our rabbit lapbook today to go along with the Thornton Burgess book "The Adventure of Peter Cottontail." In looking back, I realized I never posted photos of our fox lapbook for the "Reddy Fox" book...so I'll add those here too! Next we'll be doing a mouse lapbook to go with the book "Danny Meadow Mouse."

I was surprise at how much I actually fit into this rabbit book! We did some vocabulary work, though it isn't in the lapbook...we learned that a buck in an adult mal… Continue

Guided or Leveled Reading

Hi Friends,
I don't know how many of you homeschoolers use ordinary books for reading rather than a basal reader...but I'm sure some of you are familiar with Reading A-Z and their leveled books.

In a public school, children are tested to find their specific reading level, so that during independent reading time, they can be directed to books that are not too hard to read alone; but also, the testing allows the teachers to teach specifically to the child's level.

Anyway...I saw someone ask once… Continue

Got Yarn?

I knit...not alot, but this time of year more so. Last year I made the kids hats, I'd like to do it again. Last year I made my dgd a Fisherman Knit cardigan...I've always wanted to make one...it was SO unbelievably easy! I finished it in less than 3 weeks - and I made an extra sleeve...well, I didn't make it extra on purpose...I made it and decided it would be too small, and I would need to make the next size up...so I have an extra sleeve...NO WAY was I ripping out all that hard work. LOL So th… Continue

Lapbooking and Zero the Hero

Well, after helping someone here come up with some ideas for a bear lapbook, I decided to go ahead and do one lapbook on each animal in the Thornton Burgess stories...(rather than one mini book and culminating in one lapbook at the end of the year.) God gave me some inspirational ideas in the middle of the night, I should have gotten up and jotted them down! I did remember a few however and so will incorporate those into our lapbook.
The first book was called The Adventures of Reddy Fox. So we d… Continue

Have a beautiful day Merchi,

My! But you have been busy. :O wow
I'm barely getting my mind around each day right now... but still have a goal of lapbook ideas (or asking about them!) in the near future.

Thanks so much for telling me about all of this!! Looking at what you have done has been a great encouragement to me. I am a very creative person and for some reason it was a little shut down. But seeing all you have done w/LHFHG is getting the juices flowing again. Thanks so very much! Your are so blessed w/all of your children and knowledge. Thanks for helping a hs newbie!! I'm so glad that you are enjoying LHFHG! We just finished unit 6 today and my daughter is always enthusiastic to "do" school everyday. I actually have to add stuff to the curriculum because my dd always wants MORE! Thankfully I have found plenty of free stuff on the internet otherwise I would be broke quick!

Ha! Yes, before I sent you to that link, I wanted to make sure it was there....so I checked it this morning and realized I hadn't put a title on it, for some reason. Glad you found it. I've not yet mastered navigating through these technical waters. I'll leave that for my older kids.....We have children of similar ages (21, 20, 17, 14, 10, 7, and 3). We've been married 23 years. We stay busy...as do you! I can't wait for grandkids, though!

Hi, yes I just used a thread of hot glue and it has held up well. Also think about using a long reach stapler, or perhaps brads to secure things in place.
