About Me:
I'm a homeschooling mom of two girls. We are having a great time! I love piecing quilts, scrapbooking, and reading in all my spare time (smile here). Our new school year has begun this week (August 2008). We are doing the Worlds of Adventure unit study this year (4th grader) along with Math-U-See (both K and 4th grader), and anything else we can get into. Once I figure it out, I'll post lapbook pictures.

Lapbooks - a daily activity?

Hi Ladies,
I'm sure some of you might chuckle at this question, but here goes anyway. Are lapbooks a daily activity for you? Or are they done only at the end of a topic of study? I am finding that lapbooks seem to be a bit labor intensive as a daily activity, but maybe we're approaching it all wrong. I'm curious about how families are incorporating lapbooks into their daily, weekly, or monthly lessons. Thanks!

Susan

Hello

Hello everyone,
I am new to the site and am very excited about connecting with other homeschoolers here! I'll probably have questions as I go along and get to know the site. I look forward to meeting you! Susan

I forgot to answer your question about the kids. They are excited about school I haven't talked to them about actually lapbooking yet. Samuel is 4 and Alyssa is 3. They both LOVE animals and anything to do with it. Art is a fav for them so I am sure as long as I don't bore them with details they will love it. They are eager to learn and I only want to encourage that. A little overwhelming to think about but by God's grace we will do it :o)
So yeah the kids love school so far. They love ( at least for now) and tell people that mommy is their teacher. haha so we will see. I will keep ya updated :o)
Thank you for your advise ;o) Have a good night.

thank you! I know you are willing to help and I appreciate it.... I wanna get started, we are going to have a lapbook class soon, but I want to keep up with the things we are doing. So since we just started school, I really wanna take the first lesson and do a lapbook for it. I have planned to only have preschool m-th and I think I will stick to that and then use friday to work on a small lapbook... We have to learn this whole schedule thing and tweek it but I am excited, There are so many ways to branch off of it that I have to keep directing myself back to the basics... I think I understand the folder thing :o) I have to read through it again but thank you for your quick response and I will ttys!

hello susan! I had a question haha you are either gonna love me or depise me Sorry to keep bothering you... I was just curious if people were using the regular folders and cutting and taping them or how this actually works. I want to attempt our first lapbook on creation this friday... but I am not sure what or how to do the blank folder... I am sure any way will work, but I like the effect of opening a left and right side and having the center for the main subject.... Any advise?

Hello Susan. I am leaving you a message since you were so welcoming to the site. I am starting preschool with my children the first week of september. I am feeling a little overwhelmed and I know I want to let the lapbooks be kinda an ice breaker but I don't really know where or how to start. I was looking for some first time lapbookers ideas and stuff but everyone seems advanced in this. I am using some curriculum from hubbardcupboards and they give some layouts of plans but I am taking some and leaving some and wanted to know how you got started with it? Sorry if that was a lot and I am not sure if this posts to other people than you but I thought this would help me get started. So if you have any advise I am so open :o) Thank you so much

Thanks for the invite :-) I haven't been around on lapbooklessons much in the last couple months but plan to start up some more lapbooks soon. Welcome to the site! I'm sure you'll like it here as much as I do! I'll chat with you some more when I get an extra moment or two :-)

Homeschool Share is awesome! When they started I thought they had terrific stuff, but lately they have been adding an amazing amount of units, lapbooks, and templates every day! I just made my first contribution last week - I did the research, but Ami (the owner) made the lapbook parts for me. I'm sure you will find something you like there.

I see you are doing the World of Adventure Unit. Is that the one by Dorian Holt? We took a year and a half to do that one, and are now working in the second book. The kids have really enjoyed doing it. My younger kids are already asking if we can do the third book next!
