Busy

We are now fully into our daily lessons. I will post pictures in the next few days of our Native American lapbook that we are working on for History. We are focusing specifically on the Wabanaki (Abanaki and Penobscot) Confederacy of the Northeast, since this is the group that was in our area prior to the European settlers.

We have worked on making our own model wigwam from actual birch bark (not easy lol), and are going to make a mini popup using a picture from the internet, of a birch bark ca… Continue

Hi Stephanie ~ okay, I'm probably asking for trouble, but I was thinking that my middle child is such a hands-on type of learner, that he would probably really enjoy making the wigwam. Last year he made a mini Jamestown with popsicle sticks for the fence and buildings, and little sculpey figures and cannons. He thought it was great, but having his supplies all over the dining room for a few months was a little overwhelming to me! Anyway, is the green stuff at the bottom of your wigwam some kind of craft foam? Do I just have him stick the twigs into it? Any recommendations on adhesives? Your pictures of it look great!

I think it's great that you "fly by the seat of my pants"! I think it brings more creativity out! I used to be a huge planner - every detail had to be in my lesson plans or it wasn't going to happen. Fortunately, I've chilled out alot - I plan, but frequently throw it out the window if a better idea comes up!

I know what you mean by the seat of your pants technique! Some of ours have been One-day-wonders because they wanted to study something. My artwork is sort of like that too. But everything always works out! :)

I like the idea of making a wigwam. The best we did was to find pictures! lol I would love to see how you have your book put together. My kids are g13, b11, b6. When they were younger it was so easy to make lapbooks, but it gets harder each year to make them age appropriate and still fun!

This is a Kit Kittredge Lapbook based on the Movie that was just released this Fall 2008.
