Homeschool Support Group Meeting - Monday, January 12, 2009, 7:00 PM
Trinity Lutheran Church, 600 Water Street, Edwardsville, Illinois (look for us in the basement). Doors will open at 6:30. Bring a snack to share. No formal childcare is provided. (older kids usually hang out though and watch videos or play games.)
I hope to be there, but our van broke down in early November, and our car before Christmas. My husband got laid off two days before the van broke down, so we have no transportation or money to fix the van...it needs a new transmission among other things. So...if I can find a ride I will be there. The people are nice and the guest speaker is a lady I have known since I was a little girl. She's very encouraging. Let me know if you decide to go.
Blessings,
Natalie
Our church is Center Grove Presbyterian in Edwardsville. We love, love, love it there Do you think you will be staying in IL for a while? Have you gotten connected with any of the homeschooling groups? The FOCHE group meets tomorrow night in Edwardsville. The speaker is talking about the Charlotte Mason approach. Send me an email if you want to go and need directions.
Love,
Natalie
The children have not made any lapbooks but I have told them that we will be placing their materials in them. I would like for all the kids to make a lapbook for nursery rhymes, the plant cycle, the body, mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, and amphibians. At this time, I am collecting some of their work or their placing them in their own plastic bag.
Thank you for writing back...
Caroline
yes, we do enjoy lapbooking we actually are working on about 3 different ones right now and the girls want to add another...what a great idea giving your dad a father's day lapbook! Hum, maybe we'll do that for grandparents day, and I'll do it next year for my follk...thanks for the wonderful idea...Blessings

I almost forgot - Homeschool Share (HSS) is also an excellent resource. Lots of great things there.

I found the mini-books for our lapbooks at a couple different places. So far we mix and match different things in our lapbooks instead of just doing all the parts from one source. Lapbook Lessons (here), Christian Preschool Printables and Enchanted Learning are my main sources for now. Enchanted Learning is a subscription site ($20 for a year) but they have a lot of samples to look at so you can decide if you want to subscribe. The wealth of information available there is staggering. I also have looked at the lapbook kits from Hands of a Child - I've got a couple of their freebies, but have not used them yet (the freebies are a little above the preschool level). I hope this helps.

I got the character here: http://www.frontiernet.net/~goofis1/Images/Food/JohnnyAppleseed
And I got the 'real name' flap from A Journey Through Learning's 'The Life and Times of Johnny Appleseed' lapbook and unit study. I purchased it here for only $1.00 http://www.currclick.com/product_info.php?products_id=24733&it=1
It's a great unit pack and well worth the $1.00 :-) It has facts and all the other goodies.
Can't wait to see you're apple lapbook, sounds cute!
Blessings,
Valerie
I wanted to say I have to agree with the post you made in May about Carisa's lapbooks and site. She's got some terrific stuff and very generous of her to share it. I haven't checked it out in awhile, so since you brought it to my memory I'll have to do that!!!
Thanks again, bye for now!
