Thanks for uploading your rainforest pictures! I love to see what others are doing. We're still working on our rainforest book...but I expect we'll finish it by the end of the week -maybe? It's become a lot more involved than I had initially planned...but that happens I guess. We're having fun and we're learning, and that is all that matters!

I'd love to see pictures of your rainforest lapbook...that is what we are studying now...my objectives for this young age are:
know the 4 layers, identify at least one animal from each layer, know where the rainforests are located on a globe, and as such know where the equator is, and finally understand the climate...the last should be easy as it is the opposite of the arctic unit we just did!
we're having alot of fun with it, and if you care to read it, I posted a blog on my page earlier...just click my picture or blogroll above.

Michelle,
When I first joined this group, I didn't know what I was doing, so I posted some blogs asking other how they do it...
this was my first one: How do yOU Create your lapbooks?, and you will be able to read the responses I got to that one.
Then I asked, How do you balance curriculum and lapbooking?
and then most recently I asked about objectives others might have
You'll see many varied responses, because as I said you develop your own system/process as you go along.
I wouldn't worry too much that you aren't doing enough...your children are still young, and they are gaining knowledge from you daily!
Let me know if I can be of any more help!
Blessings,

I have a ds4 and dd5 and dgd6 - I mostly just lapbook with the older two, as my son is still a bit of a wiggle worm. He likes to cut and glue, but isn't into the "teaching" part of it all yet.
I like to start my "theme" with a book or books. But long before that, I research other peoples lapbooks on the subject I want to do...I download things I like, bookmark things, etc. and when I feel I have enough, then I look it over and adapt it to my kiddos. At some point I think about what it is I want my little ones to take away from the lessons...what my objectives are...because that is where I will focus.
Then when I have that all straight, we'll start learning, doing, singing the topic...and then I'll start figuring out what books/folds etc. I think will work for the different objectives.

I've added you as a friend so that we can send messages rather than comments...
I've done a couple blogs on my process...but I will say that for the most part I think each person make their own process in time.
How many lapbooks have you done? We've only done 4, and we're working on our 5th study now. For me, I think my process has changed and developed with each lapbook we do.

Profile Information

Lapbooking is brand new this year for us. We are really enjoying the creativeness that it allows us to experiment with. My 9 YRO DD recently completed a rainforest lapbook during our study of Africa. Here are some pictures of the finished project.

Front cover. On it she has included a map of all the rainforests in the world, as well as the different layers of the rainforest.

Inside. On the left she has listed the books that we've read and there is a pocket for all of the animal/insect cards she made. In the middle she has a collage of all of the animals of the rainforest. On the right side she has a snake figure which she has printed all over the image, adjectives which describe a snake.

The macaw is a craft project from a book entitled Crafts for Kids Who Love Rainforests .
