April Showers bring May flowers.......and flower lapbooks too! We're soooo excited to get started on our Flowers Lapbook, it's the perfect time of year to go exploring outdoors and learn more about all the wonderful plants and flowers that God has created.
Flowers and Plants is a huge topic, there are so many angles you can explore with your children, so you might want to come up with a list of things you want your child to learn from this experience. (I believe these are called objectives or rubrics, in the professional world!)
You can find many free unit studies online to give you an idea of objectives, or even a nice outline to follow!
So here is a list of links to get you started with your Flower Lapbooks, be sure and download the attached files at the bottom, these are some freebies you can use, including a Flower Layer book, Flower Anatomy, and Plant Anatomy!
Search the web and find your links for free resources (if you have the time)Take a second to visit other participants blogs to make sure you don’t duplicate links Grab our graphic, and post your blog entry with your links Come back here and sign Mr. Linky and add a direct link to your blog post (not a link to you hompage on you blog, but a link to your actual post….permalink works and if you need help doing this, just email me) After your child finishes their lapbook, Edit your original blog entry to add your pictures and such. For example see Melissa’s blog entry she did, she added the finished entry to the bottom of the post. When you do this it keeps it easy for people to find your links and your lapbook, and if you do it this way, I’ll be able to archive your link on my site and send even more traffic your way! Then, since you’ve already added your link to Mr. Linky (the permalink to the same post) all you need to do is post a comment and let us all know that your lapbook is finished! And then, we’ll come scurrying by the truckloads to see what your little one did!
I love the game you have at the bottom of your blog about the parts of a flower!!! Also, love what you're doing with the sunflower and all of the info you shared, thanks!

I love it! I had a feeling things were leaning that way, so I got out my thematic unit on flowers from Mailbox Magazine. They have some ideas we can adapt and excellent book lists. So exciting!
I haven't had a chance to check all these out yet...but they look great! Thanks Valerie!
Today I found some grid coloring for math: a Daisy and a Tulip. These particular grid maps are similar to the old Battleship game grid...but you could alter them for a hundreds chart grid instead, those are great for reinforcing larger number concepts.
enchanted learning has a lot of things to do for a flower theme.
We're going to plant "mammoth" sunflower seeds and watch/chronicle how they grow, then we will transplant them outside in a large circle and eventually pull the tops in together to make a house... here are the directions. I can't wait! We have no shade in the playyard, so it gets quite hot in the summer months, and this will be a nice place to keep cool.
I'm looking forward to seeing other flower ideas (and seeds too.)
Here's a nursery rhyme copywork of Mary, Mary Quite Contrary. It's not for tracing, but rather copying from a smaller selection on the page. It has the Getty-Dubay Italic for it's example.
I hope someone else can use it!
I found a fun song! Today I got an email for a free trial issue of Mailbox Magazine and Teacher's Helper Magazine, both of which I love, but find to be too expensive...anyhow...I signed up for the trial issue, and was given access to their Mailbox Companion which has online printables for the Mailbox Magazine (instead of photocopying) I don't get access to the entire magazine...but some of the printables are still usable.
I'm rambling, sorry... the point is, once I had access, I found they had a flower theme in their April/May magazine...and I got this really cute song:
What Do Plants Need to Grow?
(sung to the tune of “Head and Shoulders”)
What do all plants need to grow, need to grow?
What do all plants need to grow, need to grow?
Soil and air and light and water,
That’s what all plants need to grow, need to grow!
What plant parts do we know, do we know?
What plant parts do we know, do we know?
Roots and stems and leaves and flowers,
They are plant parts that we know, that we know!
The second verse is the one I will likely use as we already know what plants need to grow...and they had a downloadable/printable "plant parts" worksheet type thing...color, cut apart, glue and label...pretty cool.
These are available at: http://www.theeducationcenter.com but you will probably need to ask for a trial issue in order to access them.
Hi Valerie- We are starting to find links. Yours look great!
I don't see a Mr. Linky- am I missing it?
Sorry about so many Rainbow lapbooks. I am having problems seeing it with Internet Explorer- hopefully I can soon access it and delete two. If you want to delete them so there is only one of my videos, that is fine. I will try to soon make a video or slideshow of how I assembled that lapbook with many flaps!
Thanks!

We especially love the flower numbers match-up game. and the layer flap booklet! Thanks so much. Once Mr. Linky shows up, I will add our links!
I didn't think my son would have as much fun with this one, honestly but I think it is going to be another great theme for him! I do hope next month is a little more boyish, though (we are hoping for ocean creatures!) I told him how God must have loved flowers because he created so many beautiful ones plus mommy likes flowers. He said Oh- than they are really good! :)

We've just wrapped up our studies on The Oregon Trail, and I've put together a lapbook to go alongside it! The minibooks would be great for any Westward Expansion Theme, Early American, and Pioneer themes as well.
You can see photos and download the files from this page in our site:…
This is a free Garden Lapbook that would be perfect for keeping track of all your garden activities. There are journaling pages, tables, graphs, and lots of minibooks to record detailed information on the different flowers and vegetables you're children plant this
This is a Kit Kittredge Lapbook based on the Movie that was just released this Fall 2008. Kit Kittredge: An American Girl was based on the American Girl books by Valerie Trip, but I'm not sure how "related" the movie is to the books because we haven't read them yet. The movie was super cute, so we just had to make a lapbook f…
I'm working on updating and adding to our Lapbook Template section. These are some fun Bible Verse Pockets you can use for storing children's verse cards with. Just glue the sides and the bottom and keep the memory verse inside
I've just revamped the "Bible Lapbook" page so that you'll be able to see small thumbnails of the minibooks before you print them. I've also added a Bible Lapbook Title Page and a Bible Names minibook.
